Streaming Overlay Platform Azarus Breaks All Records at Evo Tournament

The Web3 streaming overlay platform Azarus has reported record engagement from its recent coverage of the Evo Tournament. Azarus provided enhanced content for Twitch streams, allowing global esports fans to watch the Las Vegas event held from July 19 to 21.

The Evolution Championship Series, better known as Evo, is the premier fighting game esports event that brings together players, streamers, and fans for three days of PvP and team battles. Before the start of the AT&T-sponsored event, Azarus sealed a partnership with Twitch, enabling the enhancement of live streams using Azarus’s patented overlays. All signs indicate that this collaboration was a major success.

Tens of Thousands Participating

Azarus provided a series of trivia games that viewers could participate in while tuning into the Evo streams on Twitch. At its peak, it was reported that 37,000 players simultaneously engaged in these mini-games during Evo, demonstrating both the capability of the overlay technology and the demand for enhanced streaming services.

Azarus reports that over 74,000 viewers participated in these mini-games during the Evo tournament. The most popular of these, Rock Paper Scissors, showcases the simple pleasures offered by Azarus. With the ability to play against the Evo Champion in real time, this game proved highly popular, achieving a 51% engagement rate with stream viewers.

In addition to the mini-games, trivia overlays also resonated with viewers. Evo streamers were tasked with answering questions based on clips they had just watched. The allure of PlayStation Plus Premium vouchers and Evo Online Merch vouchers, which were available, further boosted engagement and contributed to the live streaming experience.

Fighting Meets Fun at Evo

Since its inception in 2002, Evo has evolved into a legendary esports event uniting fans of the best fighting games across various genres and eras. Today, Evo is a global event attracting top esports players as well as major sponsors. Now owned by RTS and Sony Interactive Entertainment, Evo brings together approximately 60,000 fans annually who enjoy the chance to meet and mingle. Hundreds of thousands more catch the best of the action through streaming platforms like Twitch.

Evo 2024 featured a range of showcases and game reveals, treating fans to titles like Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, as well as a Live Rivals React with Justin Wong and IFC Yipes. There were also panels from Capcom, Bandai Namco, Arc System Works, Cygames, and SNK.

Following the success of its partnership with Twitch for Evo 2024, Azarus is on a mission to implement similar collaborations that affirm its belief that the future of streaming is interactive. Now part of the web3 company Animoca Brands, Azarus has found a winning formula for maximizing fan engagement and brand visibility. The company aims to continue its fruitful collaboration with Twitch while seeking other opportunities to enhance streaming with web3 technology.
